We are pleased to share that the Doncaster Dementia Fundraisers have joined our Doncaster Citizens Advice Champions Programme, expanding the network of trusted local groups who signpost residents to clear, reliable information and support.
The Fundraisers already play a vital role in the community. Alongside running social events, Singing for the Brain sessions, dementia‑friendly game afternoons and afternoon teas, they work tirelessly to raise the funds that make these activities possible. Their efforts ensure that people living with dementia, and their families and carers have regular opportunities to come together in a safe, welcoming space where they can relax, connect with others, and feel supported. For many families, the group provides both practical help and a sense of belonging they rely on week after week.
Clive, a carer, described the difference the group makes:
“I don’t know what I’d do without this group. I get a lot of information from here, and the more we know, the better.”
What Citizens Advice Champions Do
Doncaster Citizens Advice Champions are volunteers from community groups who already have strong, trusted relationships within their neighbourhoods. They act as a bridge between their group, local services and Citizens Advice, helping residents reach the right support at the right time. Champions don’t give advice themselves; they use their training to recognise when someone may need extra help with things like benefits, money, housing or local services, and guide them towards clear, reliable information. This strengthens early support in the community and helps people feel more confident about where to turn when issues arise.
Linda from Dementia Fundraisers, shared what becoming Champions means for their group:
“This is a great step forward for us. We support people every day, but having the knowledge of what Citizens Advice can help with, and where we can signpost people, is incredibly beneficial for everyone in our community. It’s great that you are helping us to help others.”
Getting Involved
The Doncaster Citizens Advice Champion Programme works with groups that are already active and trusted within their community. If your community group is interested in becoming part of the programme, we would love to hear from you. Champions receive training, ongoing support, and access to clear information that helps them guide local people towards the right services when they need them.
